Morocco to Spain, Sunday 4th June

TRAVEL ROUTE:

  1. Hotel Continental to Tangier Ville Port (Morocco)

  2. to Tarifa Port (Spain)

  3. to Algeciras Train Station

  4. to Ronda Train Station

  5. to Ronda Apartment

Tangier to Ronda

1 - Getting from the hotel to the port

  • It is a short walk from the hotel to the port, down some steps in front of the hotel and across a carpark

  • It should only take 5 minutes and is all downhill or flat

2 - The ferry trip

  • FRS operate a ferry from the port near our hotel to Tarifa Port in Spain

  • the distance is approx 32kms and the journey takes 1 hour

  • Spain is 2 hours ahead in summertime, which is why it looks below like the journey takes 3 hours instead of 1 hour

  • We will need to pass through Passport Control to exit Morocco and it is recommended to allow at least 45 minutes for this

  • On-board the ferry there is a cafe & duty free shop

  • The only cash currency accepted on-board is Euro (credit cards are also accepted)

  • Tickets can be purchased in advance on-line but are non-changeable.

  • They are then exchanged for a boarding pass at the ferry terminal, before passport control

  • Tickets cost approx $50-60 AUD per person

3 - From Tarifa port to Algeciras Train Station (Bus and Taxi)

  • FRS offer a free shuttle bus that meets the arriving ferries and transfers passengers to the Algeciras port

  • The 22km drive to Algeciras takes just 30 minutes, travelling through pretty hills and past many wind turbines.

  • It drops off at Estacion Maritima (Algeciras Port) which is a 3-4 minute taxi ride from the Algeciras train station

Ferries from Morocco to Spain often run an hour or two late so it is not recommended to have a tight train connection between the Ferry and Train

  • The town of Algeciras is located just across the bay from Gibraltar, so if we do get in on time we could get a taxi to take us over to the Rock of Gibraltar for a look-see before it drops us at the train station

4 - Train from Algeciras to Ronda

  • The train trip from Algeciras-Ronda takes approx 1 hour 30 mins

  • The most practical options look to be 3.03pm or 3.30pm

  • Tickets should be purchased in advance - can be done 8-12 weeks beforehand.

  • The schedule for June 4th hasn't been released yet but based on the next few months the LAST train of the day is at 3.30pm

5 - Ronda train station to our apartment

  • Assuming there are taxi's waiting at the station this should be fairly straightforward, as it is only 1.2kms.

  • the only issue may be fitting everyone plus luggage into the cab if they don't have large ones, but 2 trips wouldn't break the budget
