Getting around on the Trams

NUMBER 2 AND 3 TRAMS

  • Tram lines 2 and 3 can be used for an easy and inexpensive sightseeing tour in Helsinki.

  • Stop 8 on the number 2 tram is right next to our apartment.

  • Using local transport is more flexible and cheaper than the hop on/hop off sightseeing bus

  • The driver sells normal tickets (valid for one hour on all Helsinki public transportation) for 3 € (from a ticket vending machine 2.50 €) and one-day tourist tickets (valid for 24 hours on all internal Helsinki public transportation) for 8.00 €.

  • The entire route of trams 2 and 3 is a number-8 shaped loop. Trams 2 and 3 go to both directions - the letter changes depending on where the tram is along its route.

  • Tram route number 4 runs from the Katajanokka to the district of Munkkiniemi. It can be recommended to anyone interested in architecture but especially for the fans of Alvar Aalto as several buildings designed by him can be found along the route. The starting point of the route, Katajanokka, is composed of several art nouveau buildings.

NUMBER 6 TRAM - The Design and Culinary tour

  • Tram route number 6 runs from Hietalahti to Arabianranta. Hop on if you are interested in design, art and culinary culture. A concentration of design in the form of Design District Helsinki can be found in the south end of the route. In the Arabianranta district you'll see that art is part of the everyday life of the area. Look out for theatres, museums and market halls along the route.
