Three nights in a private Riad just for us in Fes
Dar El Ma is a lovingly restored traditional Moroccan house conveniently located in a quiet alley between the hubbub of the two main streets in the heart of the medina.
It has two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms to share, plus a rooftop shower.
ITINERARY
12.40pm - Arrive in Fes, Morocco
Train from Rabat Ville to Fes
Departs at 10.07am / arrives at 12.40pm
First class tickets - No food/drink will be served on board due to Ramadan
12.45pm - Taxi from the train station to meeting point
The house is located in a pedestrian street and so it is not possible to get a taxi all the way there.
The taxi drop off point is the Ain Azlitten car park (pronounced eye-n ass-litten) and one of the staff will meet us there - it's just a 5 minute walk from there to the house, and we can hire a porter to assist with luggage if needed.
We need to contact the housekeeper Immane on the day of arrival and confirm what time they are to meet us.
1.00pm - Check in to our Riad
THE ACCOMMODATION
From the owners Claire and Joe
We have been awarded 2013, 2014 and 2015 Certificates of Excellence by Tripadvisor putting us in the top 10% most popular accommodations in the world for the last 3 years running!
It's very hard to capture the sense of space in photographs of the house but we know that everyone who walks in exclaims (with joy!) at the size and atmosphere.
The house is full of light, peaceful sounds, local colours and ornate detail. There's a hammam style shower/bathroom, a fully equipped large kitchen and a kitchenette, two staircases, a roomy salon, roof terraces, a 'snug' (cosy Berber-cushioned downstairs mezzanine), two toilets, washing machine, wifi and hifi! There are books, maps, boardgames, table football, comfy nooks and plenty of crannies. It's very much a case of make yourself at home...
We have two lovely double bedrooms in the three storey house. The Ferhana bedroom (means happy in Darija) has a comfortable double bed and also a small single bed in a quirky mezzanine up a wooden ladder; perfect for an older child and the Mirror bedroom, so named due to the giant mirror and has a comfortable double bed and also another single bed on a mezzanine reached by a wooden ladder.
Both rooms look out over an inner courtyard and we also have two roof terraces, where you can lounge around and admire the view across the ancient medina, have a barbeque or even take an outdoor shower (modestly screened by palms)!
As you will book the whole house we will not be there but Imane will look after you and make breakfast every day from fresh bread and local produce.
Dar el Ma is opposite a hammam (traditional bath house) which is wonderful to experience - you'll feel wonderfully scrubbed and renewed - and next to the baker, so you'll smell the fresh bread twice a day.
Enjoy Fes - it's a mad and magical place!
